Friends,
I have a personal story with Arts on the Block. This was my very first official art job in the summer after my 9th grade year of high school. I made a mosaic public art piece in downtown Silver Spring of "unsung heroes". A group of students planned and executed these pieces together over the course of a summer. Beyond the production of the work, we had job training sessions where we learned interview and resume skills, and to how to build a portfolio.
My experience at Arts on the Block was transformative! I did not realize the impacts of the skills I learned until years later. I returned to AOB to teach workshops, as an official mentor, to participate and alumni shows and now, as a Board Member. Why did I keep returning? Because I care about the impact AOB is making on young creatives. This is so much more than an Arts Organization! Teaching job training and workforce development to young creatives can make all the difference as they pursue their creative careers. It made a difference for me, and continues to do so for young people across the DMV.
Please join me in supporting real change. Donate to Arts on the Block and support creative workforce development and youth empowerment.
